Your Freshwater Trout Adventure

Congratulations, you are just a few clicks away from booking your fresh water adventure with Doctor Hook.
But first, you need to know a little more about the adventures that are on offer.
NZ Fishing Adventures

During the winter months of May, June, July, and August, as I have mentioned on the previous page, trout congregate at stream and river mouths to ready themselves for the spawning run. The best and most productive fly-fishing in these circumstances is late afternoon, through the change of light, and well into darkness. During the hours of darkness, trout will come very close to the shoreline, and are often seen as little as three to four feet away from your rod tip.

During the summer months of February, March, and April, Lake Rotorua is at its warmest temperatures for the year. These high water temperatures force both rainbow and browns into the shallow river and stream mouths to effectively cool off in the much cooler spring-fed water systems. Once again, the best fishing in these circumstances are from mid to late afternoon, right through the change of light, and into darkness.

Taking all of this into consideration, I have formulated several adventure options for you to consider, which I believe will give you the best opportunity of landing the double figure trout of your dreams.
